#5-#8 Still Skitarii

Painted in April-May 2022, these guys are the second batch of the Skitarii. They are pretty much painted in the same way as #1-#4, only my hands were a tiny bit more steady.  5 A half-hearted attempt at shading the cape and a laughable one at the glow on the coils. I swear it looked better when I painted it. It was probably when I saw the photos in full screen when I realized that I should actually take off my glasses for painting :) 6 Didn't even try to paint the writing on the purity seal. 7 8 The first attempt to decorate the base a little. Probably the best part of the mini to be honest. Don't get me wrong, I still love each one of them. Paints Same as  #1  plus Citadel Golgfag Brown Ryza Rust Martian Ironcrust

#2-#4 Skitarii

These were painted simultaneously with #1 so they are pretty much the same, but I vaguely seem to see some improvements in brush control. Or maybe I'm just imagining it. :) 2 Still no attempt was made to shade the cape, and no basing. 3 This poor fella has his round thing on his backpack upside down. I only noticed the skull sigil in the middle way after I glued it on. 4 With this kit you can choose between making Skitarii Rangers and Vanguard. Since I'm not going to play with these I didn't care much if my choice for the parts I used would make any sense on the table. I was just wanted to paint cool looking minis and try different things. I've seen some beautifully painted examples online. It didn't bother me at all that mine are far from the quality from what others can achieve. I was really enjoying the process and I felt some progress so I was just happy to keep going.  Painted in April 2022, same paints as #1

#1 Skitarii

This was the very first mini I painted: an Alpha of the Skitarii Vanguard. At this point I already spent a couple months watching mini painting tutorials on Youtube and I just walked in a local store and asked the guys to help me put together a starting kit. I left the store with a box of 10 Skitarii, a box of 5 Sicarians (they looked a bit intimidating at first so they had to wait a few weeks) some brushes and all the paints needed to paint the two boxes. Actually I painted four minis simultaneously but every time I moved on the a new part I started with this one, so this is in every sense the "first". Before I started I read an advice somewhere about your first mini: Keep it! Don't throw it away, don't give it away, and don't ever repaint it. It should always be there to compare so that you can see how far you've come. We'll this is how it turned out. It's not nice for sure, but it's a baseline. Actually I was quite pleased with the results. I ...

Intro

Welcome! This blog documents my journey as an amateur miniature painter. I'm not sure it will be any useful for anyone else, it will be mostly just my notes of what I tried, what worked, what didn't and how the results look like. But if you're here and want to look around, be my guest. I started almost exactly a year and a half ago and in this time I managed to finish 30 minis. Not a huge number I know, wanted to paint more, but life keeps interfering with my mini painting plans. To look at the bright side, I can document the journey almost from the very beginning :) So far I've painted mostly Warhammer 40k minis, plus some D&D and some board game ones and recently started experimenting with different base building techniques.
